Trade your fears and worries for something incomparable!
In order to get that peace of God which surpasses all understanding to guard your heart and mind, you have to fight for it!
Be anxious for nothing
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7.
When you truly believe that God holds you in the palm of His hand, that He has planned all your paths perfectly, that He has thoughts of peace and not of evil for you, that He comprehends your path and is acquainted with all your ways, that He hears and answers your prayers, then the above verses can become a reality in your life.
But that’s not to say that it comes naturally. Humanity is, for the most part, eaten up with anxiety about one thing or the other. Worries about money, school, the economy, employment, the future, those you care about, the earth itself, what people think of you, how things will work out for you, you name it. These are all actually quite natural thoughts for a human being. So, in order to get that peace of God which surpasses all understanding to guard your heart and mind, you have to fight for it!
Fight for what you see in faith!
Once you have made that decision in faith – that you want to trade in all thoughts of anxiety, worry, stress, and fear for the peace and rest and hope and joy that you can receive from God – then there is work to be done. Having made the decision doesn’t mean that you will no longer be tempted to these things. But it means that now is the time for you to battle for what you see in faith!
Uneasy, restless thoughts may come into your mind about various things. Satan would love nothing more than if these “cares of the world” were able to take over and choke your faith. That is what he is campaigning for and he knows how to use your own fears and anxieties against you. He does his best to get you to be overwhelmed by these things.
But those verses in Philippians give not only the commandment – “be anxious for nothing,” – but also the solution! You can go to your faithful Father in heaven, who is just waiting for you to come to Him, and “by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to Him.” Thanking Him that He is guiding all things and will cause all things to turn out for your good and knows much better than you what you need. Praying that He will give you power over these spirits of fear and that you can put all your trust in Him. That when things don’t go as you feel they should with your limited human understanding and reasoning, you can be at rest in knowing that it is because He, in His perfect love and wisdom for you, has something different planned. Something that will work for your sanctification; that you are conformed to the image of His Son. (Romans 8:29.) Fight for that, remain on your knees – even if it is in your heart as you go about your day – until you have broken through to faith and peace. Then the wicked one cannot touch you! (1 John 5:18.)

The simple solution from Jesus
You must seek His kingdom with all of your heart. Jesus has given you that simple solution for worry, anxiety, and fear. (Matthew 6:31-34.) You must give yourself wholeheartedly to serve Him, to seek His will for your life, to obey His commandments. Then everything you need will be given to you – that is a promise. Become completely caught up in the kingdom of heaven! Then you will agree with David that: “Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble.” Psalm 119:165.
So, you can go to action against the spirit of fear. Giving in to it is not going to change anything about any situation. When your faith is in God, then He will show you the way to get through it without coming out of rest in Him. “… casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7. Not that the situation will disappear, not that everything will turn out just like you want it to, but He will give you everything that is required to bear the situation, to deal with it in a godly way, and to become transformed through it. God allows us to go through situations that we cannot always understand so that we can be saved through them. You will come through the situation richer for it.
The resulting rest, peace, and joy that you experience is not a reflection of the situation itself, but the reward of your faith. Where others hearts fail them and they are helplessly adrift, your heart will be secure in God. The trade-off of becoming free from the bondage of heavy and fearful thoughts for the rest and peace and joy you receive in God is beyond compare.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7.
