E12: Why being a Christian is the most rewarding life

As Christians we have possibilities in life that are almost unbelievable. We have access to strength and power to live a life that many could only dream of. In today’s episode Eunice and Kathy chat about 11 phenomenal reasons why being a Christian is the best life that is possible to live here on earth.

Kathy: Welcome back to “Living the Gospel;” you’ve got Eunice and Kathy with you again this week.

Eunice: Hi Kathy and hi everyone; thanks for joining us! Our topic today is why being a Christian is the most rewarding and beneficial life that is possible to live.

Kathy: So, let me ask you a question Eunice. What would you say to someone who asked you why you are a Christian?

Eunice: I would say that it’s because it makes me happy. Not kind of like … happiness that I am jumping up and down, all day, every day. Though it happens quite often.

Kathy: I’ve seen it!

Eunice: But it is … I think it’s more like a peace in my heart and a joy that can’t be shaken. Knowing that God is with me all the time. I think that is what I’d say.

Kathy: So how does that actually apply in your day-to-day life?

Eunice: Well, I know how I am as a person and my natural tendencies. For example, when someone does something that I would naturally be offended about. You know, think that I am treated unfairly. And being a Christian, I have God’s Word. For example, about being thankful, and I have someone to turn to when there is no one else to turn to. And I also have access to strength and power that God gives me. And that gives me the power to become free from my lusts and my normal human tendencies that would for example answer back and be bitter. And I think that that is a big reason why I can be happy, with God’s Word and living for Him.

Kathy: By nature, we think that giving in to bring offended is actually going make us feel good, right? Or that …

Eunice: Yeah, some sort of release.

Kathy: Yeah, it’s a release, right? But that isn’t the case at all, is it?

Eunice: No, because I think all of us have experienced how becoming offended, you know, becoming bitter, doesn’t lead to happiness. Even though it might seem like it’s the fair thing to do. But in contrast, living according to God’s Word and being obedient to that does lead to happiness, although it might seem a bit hard to make that choice at first. But that really leads to a life on earth that is good. Good relationships with people and regardless of what my circumstances are.

Kathy: And God really blesses that kind of faithful life, doesn’t He?

Eunice: Yeah.

Kathy: So, we get to actually really taste and see the goodness of God very richly as it’s written in Psalms. And not least, like you mentioned, in the relationships we have with other people. We can have good, open relationships with the others, when our sin isn’t getting in between us, right? And at the beginning of Psalms I thought of this, the verse that David describes there that life becomes like a tree that is planted by rivers of living water. And I’ve always loved that verse. It is such an appealing picture to me, of how life can be.

Eunice: That’s right. A disciple life is the most rewarding life we can live. And God has given us His Word so that we can live this life, here on earth and also in eternity. We know that we have a crown of life waiting for us, and it is actually, almost unbelievable. Something that we should be thinking about. Keeping in the forefront of our thoughts when we are standing there in our battles. And thanking God for it.

Kathy: That is not something we take for granted, that we’re able to live this life, right? But that we actually live in this state of thankfulness.

Eunice: That’s right. So, we have an article on our website on this topic that we’re going to listen to, today. It’s called, “11 reasons why being a Christian is totally worth it.”

Kathy: And these of course are just 11 of many reasons, right? But the author really brought out some points that are good for us to think about. So, let’s take a listen.

Kathy: That was really good, so thanks to Joy for putting it down in words! And it is so good to think about these things and to actually really meditate on them, right? I know for myself, I was born into a Christian family and I grew up hearing the gospel and I have been in a really strong Christian environment all my life, actually. So, I think the danger for me and probably others as well, is that this whole life that we are allowed to live can almost become ordinary, if you know what I mean. Like, yes, I’m a Christian etc., etc. But to really think about what Jesus did for me, what that means for my life, and that actually because of that I get to experience an unbelievably extraordinary life. And not only here on earth, but then I also look forward to an unbelievable eternity that I can’t even actually imagine.

Eunice: Yeah, and we actually have the key to living a life the way it’s meant to be lived here. So it becomes a personal thing, being a Christian. And it’s phenomenal.
