How the morning star can rise in your life

The morning star is something that I can gain as a personal light in my life!

“And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.” 2 Peter 1:19.

The prophetic word is confirmed

In the old covenant, the prophets of God, led by His Spirit, prophesied about Jesus and the new covenant life that He would bring. The Apostles had these prophetic words confirmed when they saw the life of Jesus – they saw the Morning Star.

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life – the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us – …” 1 John 1:1-2.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14.

Now, because the prophetic word was confirmed in Jesus, it can also prophesy about my life, and become a reality that can be looked upon and handled in me.

A light that shines into my life

The word is a light that shines into my inner life and exposes all the dark areas – all the areas where things are not as they ought to be; the sin in my flesh. But it also prophesies about how things can be in the future if I take heed to the light!

For example, I can read the words in 1 Corinthians 13, about how love “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” First, I see that this is very much not how I am by nature. But the prophetic word also gives me hope and faith that this is how I can become! If I embrace that, if I love the light, then I will humble myself, acknowledge that I am not as I should be, and go to the throne of grace to get help to overcome the sin that is exposed.

So when I come into situations where I find the opposite coming up – impatience, suspicious thoughts, or malice, for example – then I can, in the power of the Holy Spirit, battle against those temptations in my thoughts and overcome them, so that love can grow in my life. To cleanse out the sin so that it is replaced with virtue. So that I go from darkness to light. Then the word also becomes a reality in my life; it becomes flesh in me and its light becomes my own.

As we gradually overcome our body of sin, we become more and more free. We become happy, radiant, liberated people. The light that we receive shines from us and others can see the life of Christ in us. This is a life that draws others to Christ.

The morning star rises in my heart

In Revelation 22:16 Jesus calls Himself the Morning Star. “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.” The morning star is the complete fullness of light and perfection.

As we progress on the way of acknowledging the sin that the light uncovers and overcoming it, then our inner life too becomes filled with more and more light, and we will come to the point where the day dawns and the morning star – the fullness of light and perfection – has risen in our hearts. We will have then been conformed to the image of the Son. (Romans 8:29.)

“But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.” Proverbs 4:18.
