Why it is vital for everyone to overcome sin
Your life depends on this.
You want to be a good person. You want to bless. You want to be a true help, to make a difference. But, there’s something that’s holding you back.
This something is keeping you from the pure life that you long to live. It’s restraining you from coming to the eternal riches that are available in the gospel of Christ. It’s causing misery and unrest. This something is a destructive force imbedded in our own human nature. It’s called sin.
Read about what sin is here.
Sin and its aftermath
Sin binds you! Because of sin, you do not have the ability to be truly good. Everything you do and say is tainted by your own self-seeking. You’re naturally focused on fulfilling your lusts and you’re constantly chasing after honor and recognition. Aren’t you tired of living such a life?
The Bible says that the wages of sin are death. (Romans 6:23) (Death – a complete and utter lack of life.) This is because sin separates you from God: your Creator and source of life. Sin breaks down fellowship and leads to all corruption and emptiness.
If you continue to live according to your own lusts and sinful tendencies, you can never come to the true power, joy or blessing that the Scriptures speak about. Instead, you will be dependent on passing pleasures and will remain a slave to all that the world has to offer. Death, darkness and despair will characterize your life’s outcome.
A glorious freedom!
But, praise be to God that it doesn’t have to be this way! You do not need to be bound by the power of sin and death! Jesus Christ, God’s own Son, has made a way out of the sinful nature that you have inherited from the fall. He Himself has conquered sin and death and now invites you to follow Him on this way: a way that leads to glorious freedom!
Do you see that your life is at stake? Eternal joy and peace are on the line! Why continue to live after your own lusts and sinful desires, which only lead to death and destruction, when you can live a life that is raised up with Christ? When you can partake of eternal life?
An overcoming life gives you the freedom you desire to serve God and the others from a pure, upright heart. It gives you the ability to bring warmth, joy and help to those around you. It enables you to stop your sinful lusts in their tracks and to react with goodness and purity in all the situations of life. By living a life of complete victory over sin, you will inherit all of the promises. You will come to joy and peace, and will partake of eternal life and true divine nature. Don’t you want this?
If the answer is yes, then declare a death sentence over all sin in your heart today! Sin does not have to have dominion over you. You are called to overcome!
